Services
-
Home safety assessment
Safe access to the living spaces within a client’s home is essential for facilitating prolonged independence. Education and training in safety and safe handling techniques allow the family to assist loved ones confidently.
Some modifications are simple to make and others require planning. A home safety assessment includes a discussion of appropriate home modifications and assistance in prioritizing decisions.
-
Equipment recommendations for changing levels of need
Different pieces of equipment may be appropriate and even essential at different times during the progression of the disease.
Having the correct equipment on hand and evaluating that equipment regularly helps people with ALS maintain independence. Katie provides specific product recommendations relevant to the client’s needs.
-
Recommendations for outside of the home
Clients may require support and recommendations for specific functions outside of the home like work, travel or staying with a relative. Identifying appropriate solutions that extend the client’s ability to navigate everyday situations can improve quality of life.
This includes problem-solving for unique challenges like transportation and accessibility outside of the client’s home.
-
Home therapy and exercises
Therapeutic interventions including taping, thermal modalities and splinting can mitigate some of the symptoms of ALS and provide relief for clients.
Katie will develop a customized home exercise program for clients and provide education, monitoring and training. Caregivers may also be trained in therapeutic exercises so they can support their loved ones.
-
Training in adaptive techniques
Training in adaptive techniques helps people with ALS and their caregivers participate in activities of daily living, leisure pursuits, purposeful activities and work-related tasks.
Katie provides clients and families with recommendations, customized adaptations for tasks and strategies to help clients function within a variety of environments.
-
How to care for loved ones with ALS
Training in adaptive and handling techniques, transfers and relevant equipment can help caregivers feel more confident as they support their loved ones.
In addition to training in adaptive techniques, Katie provides caregiver support and offers resources.
